2011: The End of a Lineage

Did you know… Balloons Are Bad For The Environment

For the 2011 release of Homefront, THQ decided it might be fun to release 10,000 red balloons at the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco. The balloons contained GameStop coupons, and according to THQ, the balloon release was the finale of a staged rally at the Yerba Buena Gardens convention center, designed to “simulate a method used by South Korea to send messages of hope to the North.” However, thousands of the balloons were pushed by wind and rain into the San Francisco bay, angering environmentalists. Although THQ assured upset citizens that the balloons were biodegradable, the bay became an eyesore and THQ ultimately hired a crew to clean up the mess.

Juberish: Captain Trips Strikes

Jube - Monday, 28 November 2011 03:52

The curse strikes again, I’m sick. I think it might be an Andromeda Strain of Captain Trips and a side order of Shiva, probably caused by the Clone-Killing Nanovirus that’s going around. While waiting on Death’s Doorstep I decided to kill some time with Batman: Arkham City. It’s a great game to play when you’re sick, because it doesn’t take much effort. Combat is stupid but fun as hell. Stupid because you can (if you so choose) sit there and hit one key and still crit like crazy. Fun as hell because it’s fast-paced combat and the moves are slick as all get out.

I’m stupid, though. I can spend forever on a single objective or puzzle because I’m so shit at solving them. For example, when looking for Mr. Freeze you have to find the area with the lowest temperature in the city. You have a Climate Analyzer to follow, which should make it easy, right? I kept getting distracted by shiny things and spent a couple of hours tracking the location. But really, even without the tracking unit, which direction do you most likely have to go to find him? NORTH FFS! /Bonk.
