Crackdown On Multiple Game Accounts Leaves Some Honest Gamers Locked Out
Ma Hong (a pseudonym) spent at least 10 hours every day over the last 5 years playing the same old MMORPG. She put a lot of care and effort into each of her characters, so much so that they were considered well equipped by many of the top gamers in the game. Late last week, when the 38-year-old Ma attempted to continue her 5 year long tradition of online gaming, she was greeted by a notice telling her that her account has been banned. More »
The Japanese PS2′s Last Game Gets A Release Date
A couple of months ago, I wrote about how the Japanese PlayStation 2 has one unreleased game left. For the longest time, this title, Final Fantasy XI: Seekers of Adoulin, had been simply labeled as “Release date: 2013.” Now, at last, it has an official release date. More »
True Marvel Heroes Tales of a Level 15 Hawkguy
The Avengers’ Hawkeye (lovingly referred to by comic scribe Matt Fraction as Hawkguy) gets a lot of flak from fans and movie-goers for being the guy with the bow and arrow trying to keep up with the equivalent of spandex-wearing gods, but I’ll pit my level 15 Hawkeye against your level 1 Hulk any day. Battlestar Galactica Online Review
I’m doing a bit of freelancing for MMORPG.com, and my first review for the site has been posted over there. If you want to see what I thought about Battlestar Galactica Online then dig in! Since I can’t keep a secret… I thought it sucked balls.
Speaking of MMORPG.com, they hit up PAX East2012 and banged up quite the panel of MMO all-stars while there. Check out the video below.
PANELISTS:
Bill Murphy [MMORPG.com], Curt Schilling [38 Studios], James Ohlen [BioWare Austin], Jon Peters [ArenaNet/NCsoft], Brian Knox [En Masse Entertainment], Rob Hill [Trion Worlds], Matt Higby [Sony Online Entertainment], Craig Morrison [Funcom]
The Secret World Pre-Orders Start, Includes Beta Access
Funcom’s next MMORPG, The Secret World, is finally ready to be revealed to the world. Pre-orders are now being taken and anyone that takes advantage of early ordering will receive access to all beta weekends starting May 11, 2012 and running through to launch on June 19, 2012. The Secret World is based around myths and conspiracy theories, and is set in a modern-day world. The game sounds and looks to be quite different from standard MMOs, so I can’t wait to try it. Here’s to hoping it’ll be a keeper!
Gamers who pre-order The Secret World will receive:
- Guaranteed access to all Beta Weekends starting May 11, with the ability to carry over their characters to every subsequent event
- Guaranteed Early Access to the game, up to four days prior to the game’s official launch
- An exclusive in-game item providing an experience boost to progression
- An exclusive in-game t-shirt featuring a unique monster design
- A powerful pet (Ferocious Wolf, Egyptian Cat or Loyal Hound) to support the player in combat
- A head start on character naming before the game launches
Invite Your Friends To SW:TOR For 7 Days
If you have friends and you want to try to hook them into Star Wars: The Old Republic, then now is a good time to give a go. BioWare has launched Game Update 1.2 – Legacy for SW:TOR, and as part of the hooplah, subscribers can invite three friends in for a 7-day trial. Of course, Legacy includes some junk outside of a piddly 7-day trial. Features include PvP Warzone Rankings and Guild Banks, along with enhancements to the game’s Legacy system. This update also provides improved UI customization as well as gameplay fixes and the latest optimizations to combat balance. Read on for further details.- Flashpoint: Lost Island continues the Kaon Under Siege Flashpoint from Game Update 1.1 – Rise of the Rakghouls. Players must survive a menacing island of mystery on Ord Mantell as they hunt for clues to the Rakghoul virus outbreak that ravaged the Tion Hegemony. But the answers to this riddle may prove fatal!
- Operation: Explosive Conflict sends groups of eight or sixteen Imperial or Republic players to a new zone on the planet of Denova, where traitors and mercenaries are selling the rare explosive mineral baradium to the highest bidder. Players will battle through hordes of Droids, mercenaries and deadly creatures all fighting for control of the planet and its valuable resources.
- Warzone: Novare Coast pits two teams in an epic battle to control multiple mortar locations and use them to bombard vulnerable enemy bases. Like the Huttball Warzone, Novare Coast can be played Republic vs. Empire or with players of the same faction fighting each other in a thrilling contest of wills to determine each side’s greatest champions.
Guild Wars 2 Beta Sign-Up For One More Day
The Guild Wars 2 Beta Page will apparently be up for one more day. The chosen ones will have to sign a NDA, and individual beta events will be announced whenever one is approaching. Seems to be the standard beta practice these days. Invite folks in for weekend dings, during which time everyone spends hour upon hour updating game files and waiting in massive queues. If you’re one of the lucky, you’ll get to roll a character and take it for a quick level 1 spin before things wrap up.
With that said, it hasn’t stopped me from applying for the beta!
Aion Is Going “Truly” Free This Spring
To say that they are going free-to-play isn’t enough for NCsoft; instead they have announced that Aion will be going “Truly” free. They say that many other free-to-play MMOs limit players by restricting access to paid content and denying players a normal game experience. But never fear, NCsoft has a new free model that beats the snot out of the competition. /Kidding. Unrestricted access to all content from level 1-60 and apparently there are no strings attached.
Late last year NCsoft announced that Aion would be going F2P, but at the time they were talking about various purchase packages, like Starter and Gold. “Aion Truly Free” will include all Aion 3.0 content including new zones, mounts, increased level cap and housing. No subscriptions. Microtransactions? Well, they already have those to some degree, since most MMOs offer paid server moves and name changes. So what’s the catch?
“If you like the game, we’d appreciate a purchase from our store (game developers need to eat too!). If you don’t like the game, can’t pay, or don’t want to pay—no worries, it’s on us!”
Guild Wars 2 Beta & Launch Details

Now that the first closed beta test is over, the game plan is to ramp things up in the testing department starting in February. According to the post, select press will be invited, then in March and April they will start to increase the size of test events which will lead into the launch of Guild Wars 2 later this year.
